The literature on design research is very rich (note that in this context “design research” refers to the broad field of methods and techniques about the nature and use of research in design work, i.e., here it is not used, as it happens, as a synonym of “design studies”).
- Design research: methods and perspectives is a 2003 anthology edited by Brenda Laurel, still one of the best (if not the best) on the topic.
Scott McCloud’s “comics about comics” are fascinating media design books, very solid and much more engaging than plain standard so-called “scientific” texts; but see also McCloud’s work for the Google Chrome launch to see how comics can expand to cover also high tech media challenges.
- Understanding Comics (good students will notice that this is an obvious, nice play on McLuhan’s Understanding Media)
- Reinventing Comics
- The Google Chrome comic
More to come…
